Types of Soft Tissue Tumors

Soft tissue tumor can be classified into two categories: benign and malignant, with benign being the most frequent. Benign tumors are usually round in shape but can also be elliptical or sausage-shaped in a few cases. Benign tumors are generally smaller than 5 centimeters (2 inches) and are painful to touch. These tumors grow slowly.

Malignant tumors or sarcomas are generally painless masses. These tumors are mostly greater than 5 cm (2 inches) in size and are likely to grow rapidly. Malignant masses can sometimes have satellite lesions around them.

Tumor Treatment

Although all soft tissue masses are not emergent conditions they still need to be assessed quickly. Not all soft tissue tumors require a surgery but they should be biopsied as soon as possible by a specialist.

The risk of recurrence in tumors is dependent on the type of tumor, the success of initial surgical excision, and the location of the tumor. Soft tissue tumors are usually benign but the possibility of them being sarcomas or cancerous in nature creates an urgent need for action as it can be lethal.

Any mass greater than 5 centimeters at its longest point or begins to grow then it should be immediately assessed by a professional expert. Cancerous tumors do not cause pain in many cases and in most of the cases the soft tissue tumor generates problems after a few months. Hence, it is better to get any newly formed mass examined thoroughly.

Is Surgery Necessary to Remove Hemorrhoids?

While hemorrhoids can be incredibly common and can usually resolve on their own without medical treatment, in certain cases where time and topical over the counter treatments do not work, it may be necessary for patients to seek medical intervention.

The colorectal experts at the Hemorrhoid Center of Excellence perform the best hemorrhoidectomy surgery in Los Angeles on numerous patients whose hemorrhoids have not resolved or healed on their own.

Hemorrhoidectomy Surgery

When Should You Consider Surgery to Treat Hemorrhoids?

Many people may be unaware of the fact that there are actually two types of hemorrhoids, external and internal. External cases are typically the more common case and can occur in more than half of adults over the age 50. They develop under the skin surrounding the anus, and can cause pain, burning, and itching.

Low fiber diets, dehydration, chronic constipation or diarrhea, as well as straining during bowel movements and sitting on the toilet for long periods of time can all be factors in the development of external hemorrhoids. External cases usually resolve on their own without the need of medical intervention. However in cases where patients experience persistent bleeding and they do not heal on their own, surgical intervention may be necessary.

Internal hemorrhoids can be more difficult to detect because they form in the lining of the rectum, and may not always present symptoms in the early stages, but patients can experience bleeding, throbbing, itching, and burning around the anus. Untreated cases of this kind can sometimes become prolapsed and protrude from the anus, which can cause a great deal of pain.

When conservative treatment methods fail to relieve the problem, whether internal or external, patients may need to consider a hemorrhoidectomy.

Herniated Disc Los Angeles Solutions

Also known as a ruptured disc or a slipped disc, a herniated disc is usually the result of lifting heavy object the wrong way or a result of an accident that causes trauma or injury to the spine. Anything involving a disc breaking, rupturing or slipping is a herniated disc. People with weakness in the lower muscles, leg pain or back pain sometimes get a diagnosis as being a patient that suffers from herniated discs. These can either be caused gradually with repetitive nerve straining or by an accident or sudden fall.

Many times, people who go through this condition already have an existing problem called spinal stonosis which causes narrowing of the spinal nerves and the spinal cord. When a herniated disc happens, the nerve spaces are diminished further and as a result, the nerves get irritated.

At ProMed Spine, there are treatments that people with herniated discs can undergo. Usually, knowing how severe the injury is will determine treatment. If nerves have been pinched in the process, pain management will need to be part of the treatment. Often, physical therapy is also undergone coupled with medications that control pain. Some get cortisone injection treatments while others are recommended for a surgical procedure.

Knowing all you can about the condition will go a long way towards understanding why your physician made the prescription and recommendation that they did. As a general rule, the degree of how much damage was done to your disc will determine what treatments will be prescribed. Keep in mind that no matter how bad your condition happens to be, relaxation and rest will go a long way towards ensuring that no further damage occurs. This will also put you quickly on the road to recovery.

While medical developments and treatments are advancing every day and helping to prolong a patient’s life, as well as quality of life after a diagnosis, it can be difficult for patients to remain positive and confident in the face of such serious and potentially life-threatening news.

What to Do After a Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

It might sound impossible and counter intuitive, but one of the most important things a patient facing a cancer diagnosis can do is to stay calm and try not to panic. Some degree of stress and anxiety are naturally unavoidable, but too much stress and anxiety can be detrimental to a patient’s overall health and ability to fight and recover from disease.

Prostate Cancer Survival Rate Numbers

Staying informed and knowing what patients in similar situations have experienced can be comforting for some patients. In some cases, patients may even find hope and the will to be positive about their likelihood of beating cancer if the survival rates and prognosis for their disease are optimistic.

Survival rates refer to the percentage of patients that were still alive, and in many cases cured, of their disease after a particular number of years. For prostate cancer the relative survival rates are:

  • 5 year – almost 100%
  • 10 year – 99%
  • 15 year – 94%

Hair transplantation has been around for a long time, with men and women as far back as the 70s turning to it to restore their hair. In the past, however, hair transplants were not nearly as good as they are today. Often, a telltale razor-straight line was visible along the area where the transplant was done. Today, however, transplants can be done very naturally, with minimal scarring and minimal recovery time. Your hair will look full and natural, and no one will be the wiser!

Cosmetic Laser Dermatology has the latest, most technologically advanced means of hair restoration in San Diego. Using the NeoGraft hair transplant system, the expert dermatologists at Cosmetic Laser Dermatology are able to transplant individual hair follicular units in their natural groupings into an area that is experiencing hair loss. The Toothbrush: Before Colgate

As early as 3000 BC, people used chew sticks to clean their teeth. These chew sticks were small branches, chewed to clean the teeth much as dogs chew on hard rawhide or bones. In many countries chew sticks are still in use!

The modern toothbrush originated in China in the 15th century, constructed of hog’s hair and attached to bone handles. Later, in Europe, wealthy people would use soft horsehair brushes and brass toothpicks to keep their teeth clean.

Animal activists will be relieved to note that in the 19th century that toothbrush bristles made of animal hair fell out of favor. Today, we use a much more effective and hygienic alternative: nylon bristles.

Teeth Whitening and You

Today, dental hygiene has come a long way. We can enjoy healthy teeth and gums well into old age if we are diligent about dental checkups and care. Over time, however, the color of our teeth can turn yellow or grey, necessitating teeth whitening.

Click here to learn more about teeth whitening.

Teeth whitening is also known as tooth bleaching or dental bleaching. One of the most popular methods is Zoom! Teeth whitening. The Zoom! System follows up the dental cleaning with a peroxide whitening gel, then a specialized LED light to activate the whitening agents in the gel. It all takes just one hour and delivers immediate results.
